Carlos Carrasco silences Blue Jays bats in Cleveland’s 13th straight win

Sometimes it’s just not fair. Towards the end of his outing Thursday night, Carlos Carrasco struck out six consecutive Blue Jays en route to a 4-1 win for his Cleveland Indians. Cleveland now has won 13 games in a row, tying the franchise record they set in 1951. R.A. Dickey's won-loss record fell to 5-9 in another outing in which the Blue Jays bats provided minimal offence.

Carrasco briefly showed that he was human in the bottom of the fourth inning when Josh Donaldson slammed a first-pitch into the centre field porch for his 19th homer of 2016.

R.A. Dickey surrendered two first-pitch home runs of his own to Rajai Davis and Jason Kipnis, but only gave three runs on eight hits and a walk, striking out four. Brett Cecil and his filthy curveball returned to Toronto from an extended absence, following Dickey with a clean eighth inning.

Darwin Barney—he of the five major league service years—knocked Carrasco out of the game with a one-out double in the bottom of the eighth, Indians leading 3-1. Carrasco finished his outing with a sparkling line: 7.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 14 K. His 14 strikeouts was the most for a Cleveland starting pitcher since he himself recorded 15 on September 25, 2015.

Indians reliever Bryan Shaw then walked Ezequiel Carrera to bring the go-ahead run to the plate, but Devon Travis whiffed on a 3-2 cutter to end the threat.

Bo Schultz came in to pitch the top of the ninth and gave Cleveland an insurance run on the speedy Davis’s Texas Leaguer and a Tyler Naquin line drive to right field that Carrera dove and missed on.

Cody Allen converted his 17th save of the season with a clean bottom of the ninth.
