Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion has been suspended for one game by Major League Baseball for making contact with umpire Vic Carapazza this past Friday, the league has announced. Encarnacion has appealed the suspension, so the discipline will be held in abeyance until the appeal is heard.

Here's the call and fallout that led to the suspension:

So the bump was inadvertent, but that's still a no no. MLB has to draw the line somewhere and it's a slippery slope if they start permitting players to bump into the umpires while arguing. As such, it's hard to see how this one-game suspension won't be upheld.

The Blue Jays enter Sunday 44-39 and holding onto one of the AL Wild Card spots. Encarnacion is hitting .262/.358/.541 with 19 doubles, 22 homers and an MLB-best 73 RBI this season.
