Blue Jays’ Russell Martin slips, hurts knee after feeling ‘woozy’ from too much time in sauna

This is one of those extremely unfortunate, bizarre injuries. Blue Jays catcher Russell Martin told reporters before Toronto’s game vs. the Mariners on Friday that he passed out, slipped in the shower and hurt his knee and head after spending too much time in the sauna on Thursday. Martin is out for Friday’s game and possibly more, depending on how he feels, according to Chris O’Leary of The Toronto Star.

Here’s Martin’s full quote about the injury from O’Leary.

Martin says he was in the hot sauna, “started feeling woozy,” exited the sauna and entered a cold shower, and that’s where he suddenly found himself on the ground. The good news is that he says there’s “no structural damage” to his knee.

The Jays are on a three-game winning streak and are sitting at third in the AL East. Josh Thole started in place of Martin.
