Bad start for Dickey, Jays lose

Things start out great for R.A. Dickey. In the first he gave up a walk, but quickly picked Wil Myers off first. In the second, he had a quick, clean inning.

After that it fell apart. In the third he hit Brett Wallace and then gave up a home run to Adam Rosales: 2-0.

In the fourth, with two out, he walked Ryan Schimpf and gave up a liner to the gap in right center, to Christian Bethancourt. Kevin Pillar fumbled the ball and, Schimpt (who seemed to be stopping at third) continued around to score. Then Devon Travis, for reasons that escape me, decided to throw to third, where Bethancourt was already safe and, course, threw it away. Two errors on the same play and 2 runs.

In the fifth, Wallace led off with a wall scraper home run.

R.A. gave up a walk and a double in the sixth before being pulled with two out (both would score). He finished with 5.2 innings, allowed 4 hits (2 homers and 2 doubles), 7 runs, 6 earned, 4 walks and 5 strikeouts.

Joe Biagini pitched 1.1, allowed his inherited runner to score, but none of his own. His ERA dropped to 2.48.

Franklin Morales allowed a home run, to Alex Dickerson (3 games, 3 home runs). in his inning.

Joaquin Benoit gave up 2 walks but got out of the 9th without allowing a run.

On offense, we didn't do too much.

We got a run in the fifth. Travis walked, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on Darwin Barney's sac fly.

And we got 3 in the sixth, in a 2-out rally. Edwin Encarancion walked, Melvin Upton singled (his first hit as a Blue Jay). Pillar doubled them home. Travis and Ezequiel Carerra each singled, bringing home Pillar. That would be the end of our scoring for the day.

We only had 6 hits on the day. 2 for Pillar, 1 each for Donaldson, Upton, Travis and Carrera.

0 fors go to Jose Bautista (0 for 4, 1 k, 1 double play), Edwin (0 for 3, 1 walk, 2 k), Barney (0 for 3, sac fly, k) and Josh Thole (0 for 2, walk).

No Jays of the Day. Pillar had the high mark at .075 but that didn't take in to account the bounced ball in the outfield.

Suckage: R.A. (-.266), Bautista (-.141) and Barney (-.098).

I really would have liked the sweep but I guess 2 of 3 is ok.

Tomorrow is an off-day and then we play the Orioles on the weekend.
