Mariners acquire Pat Venditte from Blue Jays

In their second trade of the day, the Mariners acquired switch-pitcher Pat Venditte from the Blue Jays in exchange for a player to be named later, according to a team announcement.

Seattle, a club that was expected to be active in August trades, also swung a deal for Pirates reliever Arquimedes Caminero earlier in the day.

Venditte, 31, is known for throwing with both hands in an effort to create a platoon advantage. He will initially head to Triple-A Tacoma, providing some bullpen depth for the stretch run.

Venditte has appeared in 8.2 major-league innings for Toronto this season, his second in the majors. He has posted a 5.19 ERA in that span, causing his career ERA to rise to a 4.58 mark in 34 career games with the Athletics (2015) and Blue Jays (2016).

Seattle is the fourth organization of Venditte’s career, as he has spent time with the Yankees, Athletics and Blue Jays since being drafted by New York in 2008.
