Cam O'Brien had four hits, three for extra bases, to spark a big comeback for Bluefield. Christian Lopes also had four hits as New Hampshire continued their hot streak. Rowdy Tellez had two bombs. Dunedin won in the ninth, Anthony Alford scored both Dunedin runs, one on a home run. Lansing won a 1-0 game. Buffalo split a double header. Vancouver lost.

Buffalo 0 Pawtucket 6 - game 1

Mike Bolsinger hadn't pitched in almost two weeks so his start was limited to approx. 40 pitches. In the third inning he got two quick outs then hit a batter. A triple made him the losing pitcher. Jason Berken, just called up from AA, replaced Bolsinger and immediately made a bad impression. Berken walked the first two hitters he faced to load the bases. Christian Vazquez then doubled off Berken to load the bases. Berken hung in to finish the game and give up two more runs.

The Bisons were held to five hits. Andy Burns and Jio Mier doubled.

Buffalo 6 Pawtucket 3 - game 2

After losing in game one, Buffalo jumped out to 5-0 lead in game 2. Darrell Ceciliani homered in the second inning. Jio Mier doubled to lead off the third. Dalton Pompey singled him home. Andy Burns added a ground rule double to put two on. A wild pitch and a sac fly made it 4-0. Ceciliani walked leading off the fourth and scored on another wild pitch. Casey Lawrence was the starter and cruised through three innings before running into trouble in the fourth. Four singles and a walk allowed Pawtucket to score three runs. Lawrence got through the fifth to qualify for the win. The final run came when Chris Colabello homered in the sixth inning.

Ceciliani, Mier and Pompey had two hits each. Dustin Antolin and Ryan Tepera handled the last two innings in perfect fashion.

Erie 4 New Hampshire 7

Rowdy Tellez hit two home runs, with four RBI to lead the suddenly unstoppable Fisher Cats. The scoring started in the third inning, Ian Parmley and Christian Lopes singled. After a sacrifice bunt by Richard Urena, Jon Berti's sacrifice fly made it 1-0. Tellez then homered to make it 3-0. In the fifth inning Lopes doubled and scored on a double by Urena. Tellez then hit his second homer to make it 6-3. New Hampshire added a final run in the seventh. Parmley doubled and moved to third on a single by Lopes. The Fisher Cats then executed a double steal with Parmley's steal of home making it 7-3. Lopes was 4-4, Dwight Smith Jr and Ian Parmley had two hits.

Jeremy Gabryszwski started and went seven innings. He allowed three runs, all unearned, on six hits. He walked four and struck out four. Chris Smith allowed a run in the top of the ninth inning.

Dunedin 2 Brevard County 1

Anthony Alford was the man for the Jays, scoring both runs. Alford homered to lead off the game. Then, in a 1-1 game, Alford led off the ninth and singled. Jorge Flores bunted Alford to second. Gunnar Heidt lined out with Alford moving to third. Ryan McBroom came up with two outs and singled in Alford. Dusty Isaacs came on for a three up, three down, save.

This game had 22 hits but just three runs. Justin Shafer went seven innings and allowed nine hits but he didn't walk anyone and limited the Manatees to just one run. McBroom and Jonathan Davis each had three hits. Alford had two.

Fort Wayne 0 Lansing 1

Lansing scored their run in the sixth. Juan Kelly singled, stole second and when Ryan Hissey singled, he scored the only run. Hissey and Andrew Guillotte each had two hits.

Three pitchers combined on the shutout. Justin Maese went five innings. He allowed two hits and two walks. But of his fifteen outs, two were strikeouts, one was a fly out and twelve were ground ball outs. Dan Lietz and Andrew Case took care of the last four innings.

Vancouver 2 Eugene 6

This game was closer in hits than in the runs column, 8 hits for Eugene, six for Vancouver. Eugene were able to do more with their hits such as advancing on throws, advancing on a balk, on a wild pitch. They just did more. Three Vancouver pitchers, Mike Ellenbest, Andy Ravel and Evan smith all allowed at least a run.

DJ McKnight tripled in both Vancouver runs. Six hitters had one hit each for the Canadians.

Bluefield 12 Princeton 8

The season series between Bluefield and Princeton is a big deal and there is a cup that goes to the winner. Therefore it looked bad when the Jays were down 8-1 after six innings. The only run was a solo home run by Cam O'Brien. The comeback started with a bases loaded walk. Kalik May followed with an RBI single but Matt Morgan was out at home on the throw to end the inning. The score was now 8-3. A walk started the eighth and was followed by five singles scoring three runs. It could have been a lot more but two Blue Jay runners were thrown out on the bases. Score 8-6. In the ninth Vlad Jr hit a two run home run to tie the game. Princeton fell apart with two errors, walks and a wild pitch contributing to four more runs.

Cam O'Brien was the hitting star for the Jays, 4-5 with two doubles and a home run. No other Jays had more than one hit. O'Brien is a sometimes catcher, often a DH, but he is hitting .381. Joel Espinal was the starter and was bombed for seven runs in three innings. Christian Cox and Chris Hall pitched 4.1 shutout innings to hold the game for the comeback.

In case anyone missed it over the weekend Pat Venditte was traded to the Mariners for a PTBNL.

Also I saw that Colt Hynes left the Jays and has joined the Indians.

I missed the news on Hynes Gerry.  That's a ton of minor league pitching that has left Buffalo over the season - Hynes, Venditte, Rowen, pat mccoy, chad jenkins and aardsma in the pen, Hutch, Leblanc, Arnold Leon and Roberto Hernandez from the rotation.  The new FO is definitely looking to get their own minor league depth, and apparently trying to assess some of our internal options.

The Buffalo rotation is mediocre at best, but the pen is pretty tight - righties Tepera, Schultz, Antolin and Matt Dermody, a 26 year-old who started the season in Dunedin.

From the left side, Loup (only one run allowed in AAA all year) and Girodo.

A bunch of those guys could be decent big league relievers.

Dermody is a lefty.

my bad PeterG.  That certainly makes him even more likely to get a crack at the bigs.

Great piece by John Lott who had a 20 minute chat with director of player development Gil Kim.  Some nuggets - Pentacost was never expected to catch this year, just to hit and build arm strength, and Kim says of Alford:  “Anthony is one of the most impressive people that I have ever come across,” Kim said. “His professionalism, positivity, maturity are off the charts, and that’s how he dealt with a couple injuries and maybe not as hot of a start as he would have preferred to get out to.“Through it all, his work ethic never wavered. His commitment and positivity didn’t waver.

He talks about his philosophy of "building not just a major-league baseball player but a major-league human being.”   The focus on character comes out loud and clear throughout Kim's comments.  It's pretty hard to get a read on the org's new philosophy so quickly, so comments like this stand out to me.

He also notes that Bichette is questionable to play again this year, and calls Nash Knight his favourite off the radar prospect to take a step forward this year - another high character guy according to Kim.

Big tall 20yr old Canadian righty Brayden Bouchey is off to a nice start in Bluefield after a brief stint in the GCL.

In 29 games since the allstar break, Pentecost has hit .372/.423/.681, which is kind of ridiculous.
