INDIANAPOLIS 3 Buffalo 2

Indianapolis is loaded with some Grade A prospects. They walked away with a one run win on the back of a José Osuna three run home run. Dalton Pompey had a hit, RBI, and stolen base. Ryan Goins had two doubles as did Domonic Brown. The Bisons got six innings of three-run baseball out of Chris Leroux.

New Hampshire 5 BOWIE 6

Bowie walked off in the ninth. Christian Lopes, Dwight Smith Jr., and Emilio Guerrero had two hits apiece. Lopes and Guerrero homered while Smith Jr. had four stolen bases. Reece McGuire had a hit. Taylor Cole pitched five innings of three-run baseball.

Brevard County 2 DUNEDIN 4

Anthony Alford and Jonathan Davis had two hits as Dunedin pushed two across late to win last night. Danny Jansen was responsible for the game-breaking hit. Dunedin also got six and two-thirds of two run ball from Conor Fisk.

LANSING 4 West Michigan 2

Ryan Borucki pitched five shutout innings and Lane Thomas had three hits. Ryan Hissey also had a two-run triple.

EVERETT 16 Vancouver 7

J.B. Woodman hit his first homer in pro ball, but the Vancouver pitchers got lit up. Woodman also had the one at-bat on the night. I suspect a possible injury?

Pulaski 4 BLUEFIELD 7

Baby Vladdy had a triple, but also threw the ball away for the eighth time. Kalik May homered and tripled, and drove in five of the Bluefield seven runs. Jose Espada gave up two runs in five and a third.

Is Domonic Brown truly no longer a big club hopeful and is simply in Buffalo for organizational depth? I know batting in the 6s in AAA is not exactly promising, but it just seems weird for a guy who was an MLB All-Star in 2013 with a 2.5 WAR (and I even picked him up for my fantasy team at the time).

Brown went crazy hitting homeruns for half a season. He has since forgotten how.

I highly doubt that Brown will ever play OF for the Jays. There are some good prospects on the way.

So are we at the point where we can return to discussing Emilio Guerrero and Christian Lopes as prospects again? They're not old for the Eastern League and are putting up decent numbers...and in the case of Guerrero, slightly better than decent. They'll never be stars...but they could develop into serviceable major leaguers who could be used as trade bait one day. Guerrero, in particular, has played all over the diamond this season and could develop into a decent utility player.

Perhaps we could say they are fringe prospects. I like Lopes the better of the two but as he appears blocked at the major league level, he does seem to fit the bill as someone who could be a sweetener in a trade discussion.

I agree they're both on the fringe, although Lopes is, in my view, a better bet to make it to the big leagues. Similar pro careers so far. Both are 23, about to turn 24, and their overall career stats are pretty close. In roughly 1,600 AB's, Guerrero has an OPS of .704, and in almost 1,800 AB's, Lopes is .696. Lopes walks more, strikes out less, but Guerrero hits more HR's. They both have a SB% of about 70%. Lopes seems to have pretty good range stats at 2B, and has more defensive value than Guerrero who plays mainly 3B, and has put up some pretty high error numbers. Guerrero would likely have to hit better than Lopes to make it to the show, due to Lopes' better defensive value, and he hasn't really been doing that. Lopes is on a nice run lately with a 10-game hit streak during which he has hit .400 with a HR and 3 SB.

liked both those guys but they both kinda broke my heart a bit last couple of years. nice to see them doing well. Worth keeping an eye on at least.

Some good performances on Friday. C. Greene pitched 6 no-hit innings. V. Guerrero had a 3 for 4 game which included 2 HR's and a steal. C. Lopes had 3 hits for NH and Urena had 2. In Guerrero's last 7 games, he's hitting .345 with 3 HR's and 2 steals. His HR tally now is up to 7, and he's 15 for 18 stealing bases. Almost as many walks as strikeouts. It will be interesting to see if he starts in Lansing next year.

I was thinking the other day that Guererro probably plays full season vall next year.

His goal was to play in the majors by age 19. I say it's possible. I would think he gets to Vancouver this season, and starts next year at Lansing, with Dunedin a possibility if he keeps this type of play up. Gets a taste of AA at the end of next season. Starts there the year after and gets a September call up to end the season.

But I'm just thinking out loud.

he probably deserves a promotion this year. which team has a shot at the playoffs?

Both Lansing and Dunedin do.

Bluefield. I would leave him there. I highly doubt he will be in the majors at 19. I hope not as overly aggressive promotion could hurt his development.

Good day for a few prospecty guys.

Both Alford and Pompey with HR's, Urena 3 for 5 with a pair of doubles. Lopes also 3 for 5 and over the past 6 games is a ridiculous 17 for 28.

Great to see the power coming from Alford. Up to 8 HR's in just under 80 games. He looks like he's got A+ ball figured out, and I'm hoping for a big season in AA next year. Ryan McBroom hit his 20th HR of the year. Presumably he takes over 1B at NH next year, with Tellez moving up to Buffalo. McBroom's kind of old, but hey, if he hits 25+ HR's in AA next year, who knows. Woodman had a good game, with 2 hits and 2 walks. His OPS for July was .911, and so far in August is .987. Jordan Romano from Markham, Ontario pitched 6 shutout innings for Lansing. He's having a nice season after missing all of 2015.

As far as Guerrero is concerned, I'd be very happy to see him have a good full season at Lansing next year, split the season between Dunedin and NH in 2018, between NH and Buffalo in 2019 and start in Buffalo in 2020 with a mid summer call up to Toronto when he'd be 21. Of course there is so much that can happen between Bluefield and the majors. The next couple of seasons should give a much better read on just how good a prospect he is.
