New Hampshire Takes Two From Binghamton
August 16, 2016

Manchester - Jon Berti ripped a 2-0 pitch out of the ballpark in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Fisher Cats a 5-4 win and a doubleheader sweep of Binghamton on Tuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Jorge Saez homered twice, including a game-tying homer in the bottom of the seventh, off Binghamton closer David Roseboom.

Trailing 4-0 in the second game, Saez homered in the fifth to put the Fisher Cats (59-63) on the board. They pulled within a run in the sixth after Berti tripled, Rowdy Tellez singled, and Emilio Guerrero tripled to make it 4-3.

Alonzo Gonzalez (1-0) worked three scoreless innings in relief to win his first game since joining the Fisher Cats last week. Roseboom (1-1) took the loss for the Mets (56-65).

In the opener, the Fisher Cats opened up a 4-0 lead, sending 10 men to bat in the bottom of the first inning. Jon Berti had an RBI single and Dwight Smith Jr.'s 10th homer of the season was a three-run shot off Mets starter Rafael Montero.

The Mets scored single runs in the third and fourth inning. Xorge Carillo singled and Derrick Gibson doubled him home for the first run. Amed Rosario walked and later scored on a single by Jayce Boyd.

Binghamton closed to 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning when Stefan Sabol led off the frame with a home run.

In his first game since signing with the Blue Jays, RHP John Straka (1-0) earned the win, allowing three runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out three. Chris Smith earned his 13th save by striking out the side in the top of the seventh inning.
