AL East Notes: McCann’s future, Blue Jays altercation

The latest news from around the American League East.

MLB: New York Yankees at Tampa Bay Rays Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Yankees catcher Brian McCann has been very vocal about his support and confidence in young New York catcher Gary Sanchez, who has taking away playing time from McCann behind the plate since being called up.

For McCann, who is finishing up the third season of a five-year deal that he inked with the Yankees back before the 2014 season, his future has become very uncertain.

More from around the American League East:

  • After striking out for the second straight time, Josh Donaldson threw his bat into the dugout. This didn’t please his manager, John Gibbons.
  • Officially a year into his tenure as the overseer of the Red Sox baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski has made himself right at home in Boston.
  • Hyun Soo Kim gets a chance to help the Orioles, and potentially be their solution to a problem: the Oriole struggles against lefties.
  • File this under the weird injury department. Rays infielder Logan Forsythe is out with a back spasm. The issue flared up on Tuesday when Forsythe bent down to pick up a towel and toss it into a bin.
