MLB Rumor Central: Alex Anthopoulos in mix for Twins job?

Former Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos might be making baseball decisions for the Minnesota Twins in the near future.

Anthopoulos is a “confirmed candidate” for the newly-created job of Twins’ president of baseball operations, tweets Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

The Twins are overhauling their front office following the firing of general manager Terry Ryan earlier this year. Owner Jim Pohlad recently told Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press he would not be opposed to joining the increasingly popular trend of hiring a president of baseball operations as well as a GM.

The Blue Jays ended a 22-year playoff drought last year with Anthopoulos as their GM, but he decided to walk away after the organization brought in Mark Shapiro as president and CEO. The 39-year-old Anthopoulos currently serves as vice president of baseball operations for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Former Red Sox GM Ben Cherington and Rangers assistant GM Thad Levine are some of the other candidates that have been linked to a possible job in Minnesota.

Rob Antony has been serving as interim GM of the Twins, who own the worst record in the majors at 51-87.
