While there is no absolute certainty on the recovery time for Troy Tulowitzki, the Blue Jays’ medical staff is “cautiously optimistic” that he could return in action in two to three weeks, general manager Alex Anthopoulos says.

Tulowitzki suffered a crack in his left shoulder blade and severe upper back bruising Saturday in a collision with teammate Kevin Pillar. There should be a better read on Tulo’s exact recovery timetable when he’s reevaluated later this week.

“Not everyone heals the same way,” Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos told reporters Sunday morning. “It’s a very small crack. There’s a lot of bleeding internally that needs to subside at this point. I really think after the Atlanta series (the team’s next stop), we’ll have more of a feel to see how well he is doing.”

Tulowitzki has hit just .232/.314/.368 in 39 games since the Blue Jays acquired him from the Rockies, but it’ll be a tough blow if the star shortstop is not able to make it back by early October.
