Similar questions hover over the 2016 Yankees that did over the 2015 Yankees, writes George A. King III of the NY Post. They added Starlin Castro, Didi Gregorius is likely to be better and they have a full year of Luis Severino.

On paper, that makes the 2016 team better than the 2015 team when April 6 rolls around. Yet a longer look at the starting rotation and it's where some of their flaws get exposed. Masahiro Tanaka's injury history is a concern, along with the inconsistency of Michael Pineda, Eovaldi, Severino and CC Sabathia.

More news surrounding the American League East:

  • The Blue Jays and Rays opened up their seasons against each other, and Marcus Stroman was brilliant for the Jays. He went eight-plus innings and Troy Tulowitzki hit the first homer of the 2016 season. Brendan Kennedy of The Star had a full recap here.
  • On the other side, Chris Archer had an impressive start even in the loss. He struck out 12, the most on an Opening Day since Felix Hernandez had 12 back in 2007.
  • Stacey Folkemer over at Camden Chat outlined the Orioles 40-man roster as of April 3, 2016.
  • Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald put together five bold predictions for the Red Sox season. The top one? That the Panda won't last in Red Sox colors for very much longer.
