Blue Jays claim Jimmy Paredes off waivers from Orioles

Paredes was claimed off outright waivers after the Orioles determined there was not a spot for him on their roster.

The Blue Jays have claimed Jimmy Paredes off waivers from the Orioles, according to MASNSports.com's Roch Kubatko. Paredes was recently placed on outright waivers by Baltimore.

Paredes, 27, has not made a major-league appearance yet this season, as he has been rehabbing from a wrist injury and had no clear spot on a revamped Orioles' roster. He appeared in 104 games for the team last season, posting a .275/.310/.416 line while hitting 10 home runs. Paredes struggled mightily in the second half of the season, leading Baltimore to reduce his role and look for other options over the winter.

Paredes appeared at third base, second base and both corner outfield positions last season, though he is known as a defensive liability. Toronto is currently carrying rookie Andy Burns as a backup infielder, so it appears likely that Paredes will take Burns' place as an offensive upgrade.

Paredes has appeared in 249 major-league games with the Astros (2011-13), Royals (2014) and Orioles (2014-15) since breaking into the majors six years ago.
