Tulowitzki is having a rough season and now he's on the DL. USATSI

Blue Jays shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has been placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right quad muscle, the club has reported. The timing isn't great, for sure, as the Blue Jays have just won three straight and gotten back to .500 with two more games against the first-place Red Sox on tap this weekend.

Tulowitzki, 31, is certainly no stranger to the DL. He's only played in more than 130 games in three of his 10 career seasons (this is his 11th season). The five-time All-Star is having a rough go of it at the plate this season, too, as he's hitting .204/.289/.383. He does have eight homers and is giving the Jays a solid glove at short.

With Tulowitzki down, Darwin Barney looks to have the biggest increase in playing time, though with Devon Travis back at second base, Ryan Goins could swing over to short. Jimmy Paredes has no MLB experience at short but does have some time there in the minors, so I guess he's a possible option as well, albeit not an ideal one.
