Who's up, Who's down: Blue Jays pitchers

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Over the past 2 weeks, the Jays were 8-5 and the pitchers had a 4.58 ERA.

Arms

Arrow around

Marcus Stroman

Stroman made 2 starts, one was good, one wasn't so good. Combined he was 1-0 with a 4.38 ERA. Batters hit .292/.327/.521 with 2 home runs, 2 walks and 8 strikeouts in 12.1 innings. I'm hoping the good start vs. the Phillies is a sign that he's coming around. All players go through down times. Well, not just players, I go through weeks where I stare at the computer and have no clue about what to write. The lucky thing, for most of us, is we don't go through our slumps in front of thousands of people. I'm sure Stroman will be fine.

Arrow around

Aaron Sanchez

Aaron made 3 starts, 1 was amazing (and, of course, the team lost that game), 1 was good and 1 was bad. In total, he was 2-0, with a 4.74 ERA. Batters hit .267/.321/.480 with 4 home runs, 6 walks and 25 strikeouts in 19 innings. If would would have told me he would be having that sort of strikeout to walk rate, even during not his best little period of the season. I'd rather the team have him skip the odd start and pull him early in games when the game is already decided, than move him to the bullpen.

Blue Up

Marco Estrada

Marco made 2 starts, both 'quality starts'.  He was 1-0 with a 3.55 ERA. Batters hit .174/.255/.391 with 3 home runs, 5 walks and 13 strikeouts. He's been consistently good this year.

Arrow around

J.A. Happ

Happ's had 3 starts. One bad, one okish, one very good. In all, 2-1 with a 4.74 ERA. Batters hit .233/.273/.534 with 5 home runs, 4 walks and 13 strikeouts in 19 innings. He's been so good, we can allow him a couple of lessor starts.

Arrow around

R.A. Dickey

Dickey had 3 starts. Two of them would rant as 'quality starts', the other he was pulled 2 outs short of a quality start. His knuckleball hasn't looked very good, but he's been fighting through his starts. In total, he's 1-2, 3.57 ERA. Batters hit .304/.351/.536 with 4 homers,5 walks and 7 strikeouts. It's amazing he's given up as few runs as he has, when batters hitting him that hard. It would be nice if we could score for him.

red cross

Brett Cecil

Brett has started throwing, but it doesn't sound like he'll be back anytime soon.

Arrow around

Roberto Osuna

Roberto pitched in just 4 of the games. They've been giving him a bit of a break. He's 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in 4 innings.Batter hit .231/.267/.615 with 1 home run, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts.

Blue Up

Drew Storen

Drew pitched in 6 games. He had 1 win in there. He allowed 2 runs in his 6 innings for a 3.00 ERA. Batters hit .143/.280/.238. 3 hits, 2 doubles, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts in 25 PA. He's been pitching much better.

Blue Up

Jesse Chavez

Jesse's pitched in 5 games, 6 innings. He had 2 holds. In 19 PA, he didn't allow a hit, just 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Batters hit .000/.105/.000. It's hard to be better than that.

For comparison sake, I'll note that Liam Hendriks had 8.27 ERA, before going on the DL.

Red Down

Gavin Floyd

Gavin pitched in 6 games. He had 1 hold. He had a 7.71 ERA in 4.2 innings. Batters hit .368/.409/.421 with 1 double, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. He's had a rough patch that's lasted a month now.

Red Down

Joe Biagini

Joe pitched in 6 games. He's has been pitch much more like the Rule 5 pick. Has a 13.50 ERA in his 2.2 innings. He had 1 hold and 1 loss. Batters hit .467/.556/.600 in 19 PA. with 3 walks and 1 strikeout. A think that's a down arrow.

Arrow around

Jason Grilli

Pitched in 5 games, 5 innings, allowed 2 runs. Batters hit .300/.400/.350 in 25 PA, with 4 walks and 11 strikeouts. Picked up a save. Hes had to battle, but he's made

Red Down

Aaron Loup

He was up. He pitched in 4 games, he allowed 3 hits, 1 home run, no walks, had 1 strikeout in 9 PA. That adds up to a .375/.333/.750 batting line.

Blue Up

Chad Girodo

Pitched in 2 games.Faced 7 batters, allowed 1 hit, 0 walks with 1 strikeout. That's a .143/.143/.143 line over 2 innings.
