Blue Jays player chills with a parrot on his shoulder to celebrate Edwin Encarnacion's home run

The Blue Jays nearly brought designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion’s signature “Walk the Parrot” home run celebration to life on Wednesday.

After hitting a home run in the sixth inning against the Diamondbacks, Encarnacion was seen hanging out in the dugout next to Ezequiel Carrera, who had a parrot on his shoulder. At first glance, it looked like Carrera brought an exotic animal into the dugout, which would have been spectacularly absurd. However, that was clearly a stuffed parrot.

Let’s take nothing away from Carrera. It’s way more practical to bring a fake parrot into a big-league dugout as opposed to a real parrot. I can think of about 72 scenarios in which that idea would have gone terribly wrong.

Instead, Encarnacion got to hang with a (fake) parrot after walking the parrot.
